Title: Creating A New Deck
Post by: Dracian on January 16, 2014, 07:27:37 am Central Standard Time
I'm going to create a completely proxy deck. I don't mean a bunch of cards that I don't own I will proxy into a deck. I mean a bunch of made up cards into a deck. I think me and my friends are going to try this and then balance them with each other. So I thought, here, me and Arktic can start balancing right off the bat. I'm going to start working on some cards throughout this week and posting them here.

I have to start thinking of the arch type I wanna create. Maybe Monks... and I mean Kung Fu Monks.

I really can't decide what I want to focus on. I keep going back and forth between different tribal ideas. ATM I'm thinking of a Kitsune deck.

What Does The Kitsune Say!?

Nice lol.
I was looking through the rule book to verify some things we keep wondering about and I just happened on this one.
205.3b Subtypes of each card type except plane are always single words and are listed after a long dash. Each word after the dash is a separate subtype; such objects may have multiple types. Subtypes of planes are also listed after a long dash, but may be multiple words; all words after the dash are, collectively, a single subtype.
Example: "Basic Land -- Mountain" means the card is a land with the subtype Mountain. "Creature -- Goblin Wizard" means the card is a creature with the subtypes Goblin and Wizard. "Artifact -- Equipment" means the card is an artifact with the subtype Equipment.
So you can't have Martial Artist type, gotta think of a one word descriptor for your new deck. Fighter is simple why not that? Other wise your creatures will counted as Martial types and Artist types lol.

Also found the rule for tapping and blocking that we came accross last time we played.
506.4b Tapping or untapping a creature that's already been declared as an attacker or blocker doesn't remove it from combat and doesn't prevent its combat damage.
So I was definitely able to block then tap 5 vampires with Captivating Vampire.

I'm trying to find how the wording is for Mind Control effects with Aura's and Equipment. I know they don't gain control of the aura or equipment, but can't find out what that means exactly. Does the aura go to the graveyard or stay on the now opponents creature. Based on what I read so far, I think it just stays on the creature.

Ah here it is:
301.5d An Equipment’s controller is separate from the equipped creature’s controller; the two need not be the same. Changing control of the creature doesn’t change control of the Equipment, and vice versa. Only the Equipment’s controller can activate its abilities. However, if the Equipment grants an ability to the equipped creature (with “gains” or “has”), the equipped creature’s controller is the only one who can activate that ability.

And I assume the same logic for Aura's, you control them, but they are still enhancing the controlled creature.

I decided to go with 5 tribal decks: Vedalken, Harpy, Dwarf, Troll, and Fox.
I 'finished' the Fox deck.

White Fox Deck

Creatures:

2 Grand Master Yamato 3/3 3WW Legendary Fox Monk - Fox creatures gain +1/+1 and Vigilance.

2 Jin, The White Wind 2/2 2WW Legendary Fox Samurai - Bushido 2. Samurai creatures you control gain +1/+1 and First Strike.

4 Kitsune Chanter 1/1 W Fox Cleric - Tap: Add 1 W mana to your mana pool.

4 Kitsune Congregation X/X 3W Fox - This creatures power and toughness are equal to the number of Fox creatures you control. If you control another Samurai creature, this creature is also a Samurai and gains Bushido 1.

4 Kitsune Duelist 2/2 2W Fox Samurai - Bushido 2. W, Tap: Tap target creature.

4 Kitsune Marksman 2/2 2W Fox Archer - Reach. Tap: This creature deals 2 damage to target attacking or blocking creature.

4 Kitsune Sunsword 2/2 1W Fox Samurai - Bushido 1.

4 Kitsune Warden 1/1 W Fox Samurai - Bushido 1.

2 Medaka, Wind Dancer 2/2 1WW Legendary Fox Mystic - Flying. W: Target creature you control gains Flying until end of turn. W: Return target creature you control to its owners hand.

2 Tatsuki, Graceful Healer 2/2 WW Legendary Fox Cleric - Hexproof. 1W: Target creature you control gains Hexproof until end of turn. 1W: Target creature you control is Indestructible until the end of turn.

Spells:

4 Blessing of Peace 1W Instant - Prevent all damage that would be dealt this turn.

4 Muramasa, Heaven Sword 3W Tribal Artifact Samurai Equipment - Equipped creature gains +2/+0. If this is equipped to a Samurai, that creature gains +0/+2. If this is equipped to a Fox, that creature also gains Lifelink. When a Samurai enters the battlefield, you may attach Muramasa to it. Equip 3.

Lands:  20 Plains

I've been trying to figure out a way to do Blue Vedalken and Red Dwarf, but stand alone blue and red sucks. I want creature decks and I can't see a way of making them viable against the other decks without lots of spells for control, ew. I think i'm done with just the fox and troll decks. If I make more it'll be dual color decks.

I never said Martial Artist was type. I said Monk was type. Well KungFu Monk.

So it has two sub types,  KungFu sub type and Monk Sub type.

I will read thise decks on my lunch... gotta get to work lol.

LMAO your just going to combine Kung Fu to Kungfu haha that's silly. Just do Karate, it's a one word martial art and it has similar values, beliefs, and strategy.

I think it's fine as just Monk. The abilities are what will make your monks different anyways.

It is fine at KungFu Monks.

I am also thinking of making a new deck with a new creature type called Vanquished.

They will probably be ethereal wraith type creatures... are there Wraiths in Magic yet?

Yes. Not that many though. Vanquished sounds cool. Do they all have Shadow? lol

no I planned on making them work like the Dark World monsters from yugioh. When discarded from the hand to the grave they are summomed to the field. Maybe with some better effects though.
