Title: Extra Letters Post by: infinity_zero on February 17, 2014, 05:11:39 am Central Standard Time Curiously, how many of you study, or have studied?
If so, what? when? do you get fancy letters after your name? Title: Re: Extra Letters Post by: Dragon in the Shadows on February 17, 2014, 02:47:26 pm Central Standard Time I got the fancy letters after my name from my father. He was born before me. ;D
Title: Re: Extra Letters Post by: ArkticDark on February 17, 2014, 04:35:47 pm Central Standard Time I don't have an M.D. or a PhD.
But I studied Computer System Technologies from 2003-2005 and got an associates. Currently I am studying general education and Mathematics. Working towards my bachelor's. I have started going back to school in 2011. I am only a part time student. Title: Re: Extra Letters Post by: infinity_zero on February 17, 2014, 09:00:27 pm Central Standard Time I just realised I didn't put what I'm studying.
I've completed a Bachelor of Science, Majoring in Statistics and Operations Research, Minoring in Physics, and ICT. So I get a fancy BSc after my name. I'm now doing a Statistics honors project. Title: Re: Extra Letters Post by: Fever on February 17, 2014, 10:55:21 pm Central Standard Time What?
Title: Re: Extra Letters Post by: infinity_zero on February 18, 2014, 03:52:00 am Central Standard Time Care to elaborate on your eloquently worded query?
Title: Re: Extra Letters Post by: Dracian on February 18, 2014, 08:30:31 am Central Standard Time I think that's a culture thing. We don't put BSc behind our names, or if we do I've never seen or heard anyone do it. Only time school changes our name is if we get a doctorate: Dr. Dracian. We have sex monikers: Mr., Mrs., Ms.
So if I went to Australia I would get to put AA behind my name? LMAO Title: Re: Extra Letters Post by: infinity_zero on February 18, 2014, 09:09:28 am Central Standard Time The letters after your name is only a professional thing. It was more me asking about if anyone is studying. But one of the "perks" of having completed a bachelors degree (or higher) is that you do get to add things to your title. I'm pretty certain it's a fairly universal thing. Just something people probably wouldn't notice unless you were looking at a professionals CV.
Here's what I'm talking about. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-nominal_letters) For example, if I had a business card I would have BSc. following my name. And that is also how it appears on my CV. However my name appears as per normal on drivers licence, passport, letters, etc. As I said, it was more my round-about way of asking about people studying. I'm pretty sure everywhere also uses sex monikers. ;) AA? You've completed alcoholics anonymous? Title: Re: Extra Letters Post by: Dragon in the Shadows on February 18, 2014, 01:31:41 pm Central Standard Time The letters "JR" do not appear on my driver's license, mail or passport. Therefore it counts.
Title: Re: Extra Letters Post by: ArkticDark on February 18, 2014, 02:24:17 pm Central Standard Time nobody gives a damn about your Jr.
It's about college degrees. Title: Re: Extra Letters Post by: Dracian on February 24, 2014, 01:13:10 pm Central Standard Time AA? You've completed alcoholics anonymous? LOL nice one. Associate of Arts.I've seen planty of business cards, met people, seen their signatures, and I have never seen this stuff after a name. Sounds more like a perk for being in Australia lol. Title: Re: Extra Letters Post by: Fever on February 25, 2014, 01:42:03 pm Central Standard Time Lotta trolling in here. :)
Title: Re: Extra Letters Post by: Dragon in the Shadows on February 25, 2014, 03:17:52 pm Central Standard Time Well, it is the DWS. Trolling is basically all we do.
