Here is a simplistic description of why the world will not end in 2012: The Mayans are ancient people, existing even back into 3114 BCE. Writing in Mesoamerica was developed sometime around 700 BCE, and solar calendars carved into rock sometime around 400 BCE. Calendars that scare civilization today that 12-21-2012 will be the end of time. Along comes Gaius Julius Ceasar, and the creation of the leap year in 45 BCE. This was over 2000 years ago, causing us to be over 500 days ahead of where we should be on the Mayan Calendar. We are "off the charts", you could say, since we would currently be in the year 2014. Hence, if the world were going to end on December 21, 2012, we would have died a while ago. Tell all your friends!!

And this is why smart people should control the media.
I was aware of the time issue between the mayans and thier calander, and of the cesaeran leap year miscalculation sback in 2010. I bet my friend 75 dollars I could disprov the 2012 thing and own my self a cool 150.

Fever.
I was never one of THOSE.
I never felt that the 2012 thing was real. I figured they didn't get a big enough rock and when you are carving stone you kinda cannot adjust error. So the Mayan sculpture just ran out of room. And there could have been a 2nd and 3rd calender on two other tablets that fell and broke or were lost or something.
LOL! Its a funny perspective.
Nice Thread Kayla, Me Likes.
Isaac Newton used his mathamatic skills to uncode the Bible. He figured the World would end in 2060ish. So if I had to decide to believe a prophecy, I'd pick Sir Newton's.

Ha! I actually agree with Kayla completely. I just like making fun of the 2012 prophecy...And any other end of the world prophecy as well.

I don't think anyone here actually believes in that 2012 being the end of the world garbage. We're all normal folks.

Archaeologists and ancient Mayans prove that believers of the 2012 prophecy are morons. http://www.usatoday.com/tech/science/story/2012-05-08/maya-apocalypse-calendar-2012/54879760/1
"Newly discovered wall writings found in Guatemala show the famed Maya culture's obsession with cycles of time. But they also show calendars that go well beyond 2012, the year when the vanished civilization, according to popular culture, expected the end of the world." So much for the supposed end of the world.

I always figured Mayans were kinda like any modern day society...Only with stone carvings instead of Kindles. Our calenders end on December 31, but it doesn't mean the world is gonna end on that day. It just means you need a new calender. Place your bets against people that believe this stuff now. Rake in that cash at the end of the year. I stand to make atleast $500 if there is a December 22, 2012.

That's just a rough estimate. The largest bet I've taken so far is $1 million. Pretty sure he's not expecting me to pay up...And even if he did what could he possibly do with the money, the world would have ended. I love stupid people.

Some of 'em I expect to get. And if they don't: Kneecap + crow bar. I'm taking the million bet as a joke, so I don't expect to get that one. It would be pretty cool if they paid up though.
