So if the starters are Grass/Dark, Fire/Psychic, Water/Fighting. Then I am definitly going for the Fire/Psychic type. Those are my 2 favorite types. That is freaking awesome.
I have been wanting the starters to be the triangle of Dark-Psychic-Fighting for many years now. I even created my own pokemon some years back to fullfill this thought.
It is too bad that Psychic doesn't nullify any of Fire's weaknesses. Well unless it gets levitate for being part psychic, that would be awesome.

Psychic is a horrible type... Dark & Bug are pretty meta. You'll scare away Bugs but Tyranitar will just come in and set up on your ass.

I don't see why you have a problem with it? Mewtwo was a genetic experiment. So mewthree could be the same. It makes perfect sense. Or the all powerful Mewtwo found a way with his vast knowledge to evolve.
I have played pokemon since the beginning too. It will be fine.
And it has nothing to do with Nintendo, that is ignorant. Gamefreak is responsible.
