Official Play Through Event I

Since the trial event went relatively well and we have plenty of time until a possible X/Y event, I will be moving on to the first official event.  The rules (currently being discussed by the staff) will make this event run more smoothly.

This event will be limited to a single generation (based on region rather than release date) and will have a starter limitation.  Meaning if some one has chosen the fire starter, it will not be available until the water and grass starter have been chosen as well.  The start of this event will be around Sept. 1st, so you have until then to vote.

Furthermore this event will be the first to utilize a point system which will allow you certain advantages such as buying Action Replay usage and eventually hosting.  All players will receive points for completing the play though.

My experience at holding similar events at GT has told me if you make a rule against cheating, people will just break it and cheat anyway.  But limiting cheats actually works.  Personally I haven't used a cheat code in almost a year and I don't intend to use any in the future.

As for the starter limitation, well, look at the current event.  Everyone playing a gen IV game chose Chimchar as the starter, which has lead to similarities in teams.  The rotation involved with the limitation will limit that.

Timing.  And yes, I know that means that some people will wind up getting one that they don't want, but I expect some will be willing to take on the challenge and will choose the last starter to reset the selection.

Personally I have never used any other starter from that generation, so I too wouldn't mind getting Piplup or Turtwig if just to try something new.

I'm probably not interested in this until Pokemon X, Y. I might play Platinum again, maybe... but I am still working on Emerald.

Yes but it would be boring to use the same starter for this event again. It makes sense.

That's great, but currently irrelevant.  The X/Y event isn't until Oct.  Back to the poll.  It will be closing Sat.  If you haven't voted you better do so.

Likewise.  The only exception being gen V.  Tepig sucks.  I hope it gets better moves in gen VI.  I want to do an all fire starter team.

1st time I didn't fire was my 1st play through of Ruby.  I picked Treeko. Combusken is just so ugly. I never played gen 5

Voting is now locked.  The first official play through event will start tomorrow and will be limited to gen IV, which means only Platinum, Diamond and Pearl are permitted.  Since this thread contains discussions that are not necessarily related to the event a new thread will be started.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeell. That's cool and all but:

1) I'm not done with my first play through
2) Gonna be out of town from the 3rd to the 10th

That's okay.  The event is gonna start on the 31st. and there will be about a week for people to sign up to allow for at least one rotation of starters.  So really you'll have 3 to 4 days to sign up.  You can start the play through within a reasonable amount of time after that.  And obviously I will be making exceptions if notice is given.  So you can sign up and make your pick before you leave, finish the previous play through and start the new event when you return. 

Furthermore I'm giving the option to those who are currently playing a gen IV game the option to restart immediately rather than completing.  The previous play through was mostly to test the waters and find bugs, as I have said before.  And of course I understand that not every one has more than one game from that generation, so for many it will be required.  This will be a one time only option since I will be spacing them out differently after the XY event and should not be needed in the future.

Now just to make sure everyone understands what I mean by a reasonable amount of time.

• 1 hour to one week after signing up - reasonable
• 1 week or longer after signing up - unreasonable
• 1 minute or more before signing up - unreasonable and against the rules

I would have to choose before I leave of course. I'm bringing my DS but I doubt I'll have time to play it much.

So let me know when we are choosing then because not many are playing anyway.
