Stargate, which spawned 3 TV shows (Stargate: SG1*, Stargate: Atlantis, Stargate Universe**), an animated series and several direct to DVD movies will be getting not only a reboot, but it'll be a trilogy.  Not much is known at the moment, but it has been confirmed that Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin will be involved with the reboot.  Emmerich will dirrect and Devlin will produce, same as the original movie.  As a Stargate fan I can't wait and I'll be bring you details as they get released.

*Stargate: SG1 was the longest running Sci Fi series beating out all Star Trek series
**Stargate Universe was the most disappointing spinoff ever beating out Joey

This is super lame, and they'll do it super ****.

They should at least try for a new storyline.

I don't see many changes in the basic storyline.  It's already been established in Stargate lore that the Gate was built by the Ancients and used by the Goa'uld to enslave humans.  They can't just change that to having the government building it.  Although that example is a poor one since the government would have to build the Gate on both ends thus opening up a whole host of issues.  Now that being said there are possibilities for the reboot.  They could set it in the future, after the previous movies and series.  Or possibly in an alternate reality, a concept used a few times in SG1 and once in Atlantis so it would fit in with the established physics of the Stargate universe.

They definitely need to bring in a new team and a different alien race to face off against.  Would it be great to see the Goa'uld, Jaffa, Replicators or Ori on the big screen?  Yeah, but they belong to SG1 and unless handled properly it wouldn't be much of a reboot.  And most of them would only work with the alternate timeline possibility since the Jaffa have obtained their freedom and the Replicators and Ori have been defeated.  The future possibility could bring back the Goa'uld, but if they do that they'll have to give them new hosts.
